{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-95a.230","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 95A.230","heading":"Requirements for participation in fund.","body":"Each local government which meets the following requirements shall be eligible to share\nin the distribution of funds from the fund:\n(1) Employs one (1) or more firefighters.\n(2) Pays every firefighter a minimum annual salary of eight thousand dollars ($8,000).\n(3) Maintains the minimum educational requirement of a high school degree, or its\nequivalent as determined by the commission, for employment of firefighters on or\nafter August 1, 1980. All firefighters employed prior to August 1, 1980, shall be\ndeemed to have met requirements of this subsection.\n(4) Requires all firefighters employed on or after July 15, 1982, to successfully\ncomplete a basic training course of four hundred (400) hours duration or a lesser\nduration as established by the commission purs uant to KRS 95A.240(5) as\nmandated by the commission as to subject matter and number of hours for each\nsubject, within one (1) year of the date of employment at a school or method\ncertified or recognized by the commission. The training requirement may be m et\nthrough training and educational programs of a local government conducting its\nown annual in -service training school certified or recognized by the commission\nwhich may provide a different number of hours of instruction as established in KRS\n95A.240.\n(5) Requires all firefighters, whether originally employed before or after August 1,\n1980, to successfully complete in each calendar year an in -service training program\nappropriate to the firefighters rank and responsibility, of one hundred (100) hours\nduration or a lesser duration as established by the commission pursuant to KRS\n95A.240(5) at a school certified or recognized by the commission. This requirement\nshall be waived for the period of time that a professional firefighter is serving on\nactive duty in the United States Armed Forces. This waiver shall be retroactive for\nprofessional firefighters from the date of September 11, 2001.\n(6) Requires compliance with all provisions of law applicable to local firefighters.\n(7) Requires compliance with all rules  and regulations, appropriate to the size and\nlocation of the local fire department or fire prevention district, issued by the\ncommission to facilitate the administration of the fund and further the provisions of\nKRS 95A.200 to 95A.300.","path":["KRS Chapter 95A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=45309","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:57Z","sha256":"1e2314542e5e78fcd870153fbb07eafc50b539380bb7c704f1310bb7e903b513","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-95a.220","next":"us-ky/krs-95a.240"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
