{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-96.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 96.010","heading":"Sale of public utility franchises by cities.","body":"(1) At least six (6) months before the expiration of any franchise acquired under or\nprior to the present Constitution, the legislative body of each city shall provide for\nthe sale of a new franchise to the highest and best bidder on terms that are fair and\nreasonable to the city, to the purchaser of the franchise and to the patrons of the\nutility. The terms shall specify the quality of service to be rendered and, in cities of\nthe first class, the price that shall be charged for the service.\n(2) If there is no public necessity for the kind of public utility in question and if the city\ndesires to discontinue entirely the kind of service in question, or if, in the case of\ncities other than those of the first class, the city owns or desires to own and operate\na municipal plant to render the required service, this section shall not apply.","path":["KRS Chapter 96"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57613","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:57Z","sha256":"283835e053a598ade06b48cf4fa29905ead877bb3d0ae231fc0f14ce5c02d28c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-95a.990","next":"us-ky/krs-96.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
