{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-97.610","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 97.610","heading":"Tax for maintenance of band or orchestra in cities of the home rule class --","body":"Procedure -- Submission to vote.\n(1) Cities of the home rule class may levy an annual tax of not more than ten (10) mills\non the assessed valuation of the city, for the purp ose of providing a fund for the\nmaintenance or employment of a band or orchestra.\n(2) Before such tax may be levied a petition signed by five percent (5%) of the legal\nvoters of the city, as shown by the last regular municipal election, must be filed with\nthe city legislative body, requesting that the following question be submitted to the\nvoters: \"Shall a tax of not exceeding ten (10) mills be levied each year for the\npurpose of furnishing a fund for the maintenance or employment of a municipal\nband or orchestra?\"\n(3) The petition shall be filed with the county clerk and the county clerk shall certify\nwhether the petition is sufficient not later than the second Tuesday in August\npreceding a general election, and the legislative body shall cause the question  to be\nsubmitted to the voters at the first following general municipal election.\n(4) The levy shall be authorized if a majority of the electors voting at the election cast\nvotes in favor of the proposition, and the legislative body may then enact an\nordinance carrying the plan into effect.","path":["KRS Chapter 97"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43766","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:00Z","sha256":"1a9bc9356d12b1682d56d354d62d862771fcb2e7ca637042f88749df2e2c4ddb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-97.600","next":"us-ky/krs-97.620"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
