{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-97.700","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 97.700","heading":"Appropriation or tax levy to maintain memorial.","body":"(1) In order to provide sufficient funds for maintaining the memorial and for carrying\non the work of the commission the city legislative body in cities of the first class\nshall annually appropriate from the general fund of the city such sums as in the\njudgment of the legislative body shall, when supplemented by any funds received by\nthe commission from gifts or earnings of the memorial, be reasonably necessary for\nsuch purposes. All moneys so appropriated may be paid over to the commission by\nthe director of f inance of such city in regular monthly installments. If it appears\nfrom the report or statement of the commission that funds received by gift or from\nearnings of the memorial, available for maintenance of the memorial for any fiscal\nyear, are fully adequat e for the purpose, the appropriation for such year may be\nwithheld by the legislative body.\n(2) For the purpose of providing necessary funds for maintaining such memorial and for\ncarrying on the work of the commission a city legislative body of cities of t he home\nrule class may annually appropriate from the general fund of the city or annually\nlevy and collect a tax not exceeding five cents ($0.05) on each one hundred dollars\n($100) worth of taxable property in such city as determined by the last regular\nassessment of such city, and the taxes so levied shall be collected in the customary\nway and shall be paid over to said commission for the purpose named in this\nsection; provided, however, that if it shall appear from the report or statement of the\ncommission that funds received by gift or from earnings of the memorial, available\nfor maintenance of the memorial for any fiscal year, are fully adequate therefor after\ndeductions therefrom are made as herein provided, the said tax levy for such year\nmay be withheld by the city legislative body.","path":["KRS Chapter 97"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43769","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:50:00Z","sha256":"145bcbe99e0a2a76e1a6b124fa17737ec31ae372d1ee70688055f0b4548a38b7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-97.690","next":"us-ky/krs-97.710"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
