{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-98.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 98.010","heading":"Department of public welfare -- Powers -- Duties.","body":"The department of public welfare of cities of the first class shall be under the supervision\nand direction of a director to be designated director of welfare, and shall, except as\notherwise provided by law, have exclusive control, under the acts of the Gen eral\nAssembly and the ordinances of the legislative body of said cities, of all matters relating\nto the provision for and the supervision of the care of dependents and persons mentally\ndeficient; the investigation of conditions that develop dependency, del inquency and\nmental deficiency; the education of the public regarding such conditions and the adoption\nof remedial measures; the supervision of public baths, comfort stations and cemeteries,\nthe home for the aged and infirm, and the city workhouse; and may  prescribe rules and\nregulations for the government and discipline of the inmates of the city's charitable and\npenal institutions; and the supervision of the maintenance at the University of Louisville\nof classes in social welfare in order to provide train ed workers for service in said\ndepartment; and such other matters as may by ordinance be placed under the control of\nthe said department not in conflict with any act of the General Assembly.
