The board may grant a license to an applicant who: (1) either: (a) provides documentation acceptable to the board demonstrating the applicant has provided at least 500 hours of massage to members of the public for compensation; (b) has been authorized to practice massage therapy by the municipal board of health within the commonwealth, such authorization being valid within 2 years of the date of application; or (c) provides proof of the successful passage of a board approved examination administered by a national organizational or board accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies and approved by the National Organization for Competency Assurance; (2) submits a completed application and pays the necessary fee prescribed by the executive office of administration and finance pursuant to section 3B of chapter 7; (3) is of good moral character as determined by the discretion of the board; and (4) provides proof of professional liability coverage.","path":["Part I","Title XVI","Chapter 112"],"source_url":"https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleXVI/Chapter112/Section231","current_through":"amendments passed before May 31, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T05:22:52Z","sha256":"dd970e697f643a8d4be39d60a422b9a6606fe5f9c0c9e827166a5afd2261c522","source_id":"us-ma","stale":false,"prev":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-112-230","next":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-112-232"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
