For the purposes of this section the term ''substance abuse treatment'' shall include: early intervention services for substance use disorder treatment; a substance use disorder evaluation, as defined in section 511/2 of chapter 111; outpatient services including medically assisted therapies; intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization services; residential or inpatient services, not covered under section 4AA; and medically managed intensive inpatient services, not covered under said section 4AA.\nAny individual or group health maintenance contract that is issued or renewed shall not require a member to obtain a preauthorization for substance abuse treatment if the provider is certified or licensed by the department of public health.","path":["Part I","Title XXII","Chapter 176G"],"source_url":"https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleXXII/Chapter176G/Section4Z","current_through":"amendments passed before May 31, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T05:24:16Z","sha256":"730529f2d053bda2364bf353912a1c475bd74905443928077c0a8e564a338cdc","source_id":"us-ma","stale":false,"prev":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-176g-4y","next":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-176g-4aa"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
