Modification of Convention child support order.\n(a) A tribunal of the commonwealth may not modify a Convention child support order if the obligee remains a resident of the foreign country where the support order was issued unless:\n(1) the obligee submits to the jurisdiction of a tribunal of the commonwealth, either expressly or by defending on the merits of the case without objecting to the jurisdiction at the first available opportunity; or\n(2) the foreign tribunal lacks or refuses to exercise jurisdiction to modify its support order or issue a new support order.\n(b) If a tribunal of the commonwealth does not modify a Convention child support order because the order is not recognized in the commonwealth, section 7–708(c) applies.","path":["Part II","Title III","Chapter 209D"],"source_url":"https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartII/TitleIII/Chapter209D/Section7-711","current_through":"amendments passed before May 31, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T05:24:40Z","sha256":"7aafe0b2fc3e5e0b028aabc92c54ea24cf4dbe40df805145cafdac514b6e5c49","source_id":"us-ma","stale":false,"prev":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-209d-7-710","next":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-209d-7-712"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
