(1) With the agreement of the judge, the commission may by informal adjustment dispose of a complaint at any stage of the proceedings by:\n(a) informing or admonishing the judge that his conduct is or may be cause for discipline;\n(b) directing professional counseling and assistance for the judge;\n(c) imposing conditions on the judge's conduct; or\n(d) persuading a judge to retire voluntarily.\n(2) The commission may dismiss a sworn complaint, a statement of allegations or a formal statement of charges as unjustified or unfounded at any stage during the proceedings.\n(3) The commission may issue a private reprimand with the consent of the judge.\n(4) The commission may recommend to the supreme judicial court one or more of the following sanctions:\n(a) removal;\n(b) retirement;\n(c) imposition of discipline as an attorney;\n(d) imposition of limitations or conditions on the performance of judicial duties;\n(e) public or private reprimand or censure;\n(f) imposition of a fine;\n(g) assessment of costs and expenses;\n(h) imposition of any other sanction which is reasonable and lawful.","path":["Part III","Title I","Chapter 211C"],"source_url":"https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartIII/TitleI/Chapter211C/Section8","current_through":"amendments passed before May 31, 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T05:24:41Z","sha256":"cec9382c3f285d47c00d0d41e5fd4edd323e2f7c8c091ab5dbe22a537c94b328","source_id":"us-ma","stale":false,"prev":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-211c-7","next":"us-ma/mass.-gen.-laws-ch.-211c-9"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
