Code, Agriculture § 5–504","heading":"","body":"(a) Except as provided in this section, a person may not keep a colony or possess bee equipment that is infected with an infectious bee disease.\n(b) Each beekeeper with an infected colony shall notify the Department.\n(c) A beekeeper may not sell, barter, or give to any person any infected colony, bee equipment, or appliance unless it is treated in a manner that the Department approves.\n(d) (1) The Department may do any of the following:\n(i) After sending to the beekeeper a written notice of quarantine, quarantine any apiary containing an infected colony or bee equipment;\n(ii) Order treatment of an infected colony or bee equipment; and\n(iii) Order destruction of an infected colony or bee equipment.\n(2) A quarantine shall remain in effect until the Department issues a written release of the quarantine.\n(3) The Department shall instruct the beekeeper on any treatment or destruction that is ordered under this section.","path":["Article - Agriculture"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gag\u0026section=5-504","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:55:53Z","sha256":"94ea84a13d958c2e82e4aca597aa3fe8744972f5fd45e501276548fc17a14ab5","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-agriculture-5-503","next":"us-md/md.-code-agriculture-5-505"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
