Code, Alcoholic Beverages and Cannabis § 22–1902","heading":"","body":"(a) A license holder may not:\n(1) employ or allow an individual under the age of 18 years to sell or serve alcoholic beverages; or\n(2) except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, employ an individual under the age of 21 years to act as a bartender or to serve alcoholic beverages at a permanent full–service bar.\n(b) An individual at least 18 years old may act as a bartender or serve alcoholic beverages at a permanent full–service bar if the individual is the son or daughter of the owner of the licensed premises.\n(c) A license holder may employ:\n(1) an individual at least 18 years old to serve alcoholic beverages while acting as a server; or\n(2) an individual at least 16 years old to act as a bartender’s assistant who:\n(i) may replace ice, remove trash, or perform similar tasks that do not involve alcoholic beverages; but\n(ii) may not engage in the distribution or sale of alcoholic beverages.","path":["Article - Alcoholic Beverages and Cannabis"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gab\u0026section=22-1902","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:03Z","sha256":"130962ca3bcfb00e925aece7aaac727d1bad33f5a54d5c676d2be1dab9dab158","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-alcoholic-beverages-and-cannabis-22-1901","next":"us-md/md.-code-alcoholic-beverages-and-cannabis-22-1903"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
