Code, Alcoholic Beverages and Cannabis § 36–702","heading":"","body":"(a) The Administration may register an entity to grow, process, test, and transfer cannabis for the purposes of research and development as provided in subsection (b) of this section.\n(b) A registration issued under subsection (a) of this section authorizes the registrant only to:\n(1) test chemical potency and composition levels;\n(2) conduct clinical investigations of cannabis–derived medicinal products;\n(3) conduct research on the efficacy and safety of administering cannabis as part of medical treatment;\n(4) conduct genomic, horticultural, or agricultural research; and\n(5) conduct research on cannabis–affiliated products or systems.\n(c) To obtain a research and development registration, an applicant shall submit to the Administration:\n(1) an application fee in an amount to be determined by the Administration; and\n(2) an application developed by the Administration.\n(d) An applicant for a research and development registration must meet the registration standards and requirements established by the Administration.\n(e) (1) A research and development registration is valid for an initial term of 2 years.\n(2) A research and development registration is valid for 2 years on renewal.\n(f) A research and development registrant may transfer, by sale or donation, cannabis grown within its operation only to other research and development registrants.\n(g) A research and development registrant may contract to perform research in conjunction with a public higher education research institution or another research and development registrant.","path":["Article - Alcoholic Beverages and Cannabis"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gab\u0026section=36-702","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:03Z","sha256":"5a0e652c84a25ec5069083956bc40987300086b630ce17f5b807fbbf67b7e692","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-alcoholic-beverages-and-cannabis-36-701","next":"us-md/md.-code-alcoholic-beverages-and-cannabis-36-801"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
