Code, Alcoholic Beverages and Cannabis § 6–101","heading":"","body":"(a) Alcoholic beverages and other contraband kept, possessed, used, sold, manufactured, stored, or transported in violation of this article:\n(1) are subject to seizure and forfeiture; and\n(2) when seized, may be recovered or disposed of only as provided in this subtitle.\n(b) Property is forfeited if it:\n(1) was seized as contraband in the possession or control of a defendant who is found guilty of violating this article; or\n(2) is otherwise found to be contraband or in violation of this article.\n(c) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, property is forfeited if it:\n(i) is seized as contraband and remains unclaimed for 30 days after seizure; and\n(ii) has not been destroyed in accordance with this subtitle.\n(2) (i) A vehicle, a vessel, or an aircraft that is seized as contraband is forfeited unless a protest is filed within 30 days after the publication under subparagraph (ii) of this paragraph.\n(ii) The Comptroller or the Executive Director, as appropriate:\n1. if possible, shall notify the registered owner of the property of the seizure; and\n2. shall publish a notice:\nA. in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the vehicle, vessel, or aircraft was seized; and\nB. informing interested persons of the seizure and the right to file a protest.","path":["Article - Alcoholic Beverages and Cannabis"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gab\u0026section=6-101","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:03Z","sha256":"fa7d7cce94f3d6060acdf09e42072c53b53b7f27b9c7b1556d7ad1612926d2fa","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-alcoholic-beverages-and-cannabis-5-303","next":"us-md/md.-code-alcoholic-beverages-and-cannabis-6-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
