Code, Business Occupations and Professions § 11–504","heading":"","body":"(a) A pilot is eligible for payments as an inactive pilot under § 11-505 of this subtitle if the pilot:\n(1) (i) chooses to be placed on the list of inactive pilots maintained by the Association; and\n(ii) has been, for at least 25 years:\n1. a member in good standing of the Association; and\n2. licensed by the Board to provide pilotage for vessels of unlimited draft; or\n(2) (i) 1. has been certified by two physicians chosen by the Board to be permanently incapable of providing pilotage; or\n2. has had a federal or State pilot’s license revoked for physical disability; and\n(ii) before becoming permanently disabled, the pilot was:\n1. a member in good standing of the Association; and\n2. licensed by the Board to provide pilotage for vessels of any draft.\n(b) A pilot is eligible for reduced payments as an inactive pilot under § 11-505 of this subtitle if the pilot:\n(1) chooses to be placed on the list of inactive pilots maintained by the Association; and\n(2) has been, for at least 20 years:\n(i) a member in good standing of the Association; and\n(ii) licensed by the Board to provide pilotage for vessels of unlimited draft.\n(c) Eligibility for payments as an inactive pilot shall cease if:\n(1) a pilot who was declared permanently incapable of providing pilotage becomes capable of providing pilotage; or\n(2) a pilot who had a federal or State pilot’s license revoked for physical disability has the license reissued.\n(d) Time of service as a licensed docking master on or before September 30, 2004, shall be included in determining a pilot’s eligibility for payment as an inactive pilot.\n(e) A pilot who held an unlimited docking master license on October 1, 2000, is eligible for reduced payments as an inactive pilot under § 11-505 of this subtitle if the pilot:\n(1) chooses to be placed on the list of inactive pilots maintained by the Association; and\n(2) has been, for at least 5 years:\n(i) a member in good standing of the Association or of the Association of Maryland Docking Pilots; and\n(ii) licensed by the Board to provide pilotage for vessels of unlimited draft.","path":["Article - Business Occupations and Professions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbo\u0026section=11-504","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:13Z","sha256":"affc8d90eca630d4d54403618f8fd9d3210ac5eee2e77ee6c50f47f7c76250d3","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-occupations-and-professions-11-503","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-occupations-and-professions-11-505"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
