Code, Business Occupations and Professions § 13–401","heading":"","body":"(a) Except as provided under subsection (b) of this section, an individual shall be certified by the Secretary as a private detective before the individual personally may provide any private detective service in the State.\n(b) An individual who is not certified as a private detective may provide private detective services in the State if:\n(1) the individual is employed by or has applied for employment with a licensed private detective agency;\n(2) the licensed private detective agency has submitted to the Secretary the application of the individual for certification as a private detective, fingerprint cards, and fees required under § 13-403 of this subtitle;\n(3) after a preliminary background investigation, the Secretary determines that the provision of private detective services by the individual would not result in a potential threat to public safety; and\n(4) the Secretary has not denied the application.","path":["Article - Business Occupations and Professions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbo\u0026section=13-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:13Z","sha256":"9acb2d996db30fc728f3312cfa31beb0bef4b524b9bc709c5cf0ab9283c4542b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-occupations-and-professions-13-316","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-occupations-and-professions-13-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
