Code, Business Occupations and Professions § 19–303","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “organized police agency” means:\n(1) a police department of the State or of a county or municipal corporation of the State;\n(2) a private police department that is allowed to enroll its officers in approved Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission schools and academies; or\n(3) a law enforcement agency of the United States, of any state, or of any county or municipal corporation of any state.\n(b) An individual applicant or, if the applicant is a firm, the representative member shall have:\n(1) at least 5 years experience as a full–time private detective certified under Title 13 of this article;\n(2) at least:\n(i) 5 years of experience as a full–time police officer with an organized police agency; and\n(ii) completed successfully a police officer training course that is recognized and approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission;\n(3) at least 3 years of experience in an investigative capacity as a detective while serving as a police officer with an organized police agency;\n(4) at least:\n(i) 3 years of experience in an investigative capacity in any unit of the United States, of the State, or of a county or municipal corporation of the State for the purpose of law enforcement; and\n(ii) completed successfully the police officer training that is recognized and approved by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission;\n(5) at least:\n(i) 5 years of experience as a full–time fire investigator for a fire department or law enforcement agency of the State or of a county or municipal corporation of the State; and\n(ii) completed successfully the training certified by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission or the Maryland Fire–Rescue Education and Training Commission; or\n(6) at least:\n(i) 5 years of experience as a full–time correctional supervisor in a correctional facility in the State; and\n(ii) completed successfully the training required by the Correctional Training Commission.","path":["Article - Business Occupations and Professions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbo\u0026section=19-303","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:13Z","sha256":"dda2bd1c70447098c70cb8d700ab69b8481cc98fd92370c5beacb68f96175e61","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-occupations-and-professions-19-302","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-occupations-and-professions-19-304"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
