Code, Business Regulation § 11–538","heading":"","body":"A horse may be registered with the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Inc., only if the horse was foaled in Maryland as shown by a foal certificate from the Jockey Club and:\n(1) the breeder of the horse has maintained a place of abode in Maryland for more than 9 months immediately before registration;\n(2) the breeder of the horse keeps breeding stock continually in Maryland;\n(3) the horse was conceived in Maryland during the previous season;\n(4) the horse’s dam was sent to Maryland to foal and after foaling was covered only by a Maryland stallion during the season of the horse’s birth; or\n(5) if the horse’s dam dies, is permanently retired, or is certified by a veterinarian as unable to be bred, the horse resided in the State for at least 6 months after the horse was foaled.","path":["Article - Business Regulation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbr\u0026section=11-538","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:23Z","sha256":"4ef261bafcfe3ca98eb9e4d655e7c0680c8972ae4596df37277f87536792567a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-11-537","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-11-539"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
