Code, Business Regulation § 14–229","heading":"","body":"(a) In connection with an offer to sell or sale of a franchise, a person, directly or indirectly, may not:\n(1) employ a device, scheme, or artifice to defraud;\n(2) make an untrue statement of a material fact or omit to state a material fact necessary in order to make the statement made, in light of the circumstances under which it is made, not misleading; or\n(3) engage in an act, practice, or course of business that operates or would operate as a fraud or deceit on another person.\n(b) A person who willfully sells a franchise knowingly violating this section is guilty of a felony and, on conviction, is subject for each violation to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or both.","path":["Article - Business Regulation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbr\u0026section=14-229","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:23Z","sha256":"697181812cf7fe6460d11900185849b3e68fea8ce0441d2142b86d83acfc3d31","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-14-228","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-14-230"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
