Code, Business Regulation § 17–601","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Construction license” means a license issued by the clerk to do construction business.\n(c) (1) “Do construction business” means to agree to:\n(i) pave or curb a sidewalk, street, or other public or private property;\n(ii) excavate earth, rock, or other material for a foundation or other purpose; or\n(iii) do work on or in a building or other structure that requires the use of a building material, including:\n1. paint;\n2. stone;\n3. brick;\n4. mortar;\n5. wood;\n6. cement;\n7. structural iron;\n8. structural steel;\n9. sheet iron;\n10. galvanized iron;\n11. metallic piping;\n12. tin;\n13. lead;\n14. electric wiring; or\n15. any other metal.\n(2) “Do construction business” does not include home improvement as defined in § 8–101 of this article.\n(d) “Nonresident construction license” means a construction license issued by the clerk to a person who is incorporated or has its principal office in another state.","path":["Article - Business Regulation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbr\u0026section=17-601","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:23Z","sha256":"39f3cc1b5e9cfb8f6992ccba42a634ddcb679d62256f575d210293fd53cf3b82","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-17-308","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-17-602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
