Code, Business Regulation § 5–701","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) (1) “Burial space” means land or space in a structure used or to be used for burial.\n(2) “Burial space” includes a burial right in the land or space.\n(c) “Buyer” means a person who buys preneed goods or preneed services.\n(d) “Preneed burial contract” means a written instrument under which preneed goods or preneed services are to be sold and delivered or performed.\n(e) (1) “Preneed services” means services that are sold:\n(i) before the buyer’s death; and\n(ii) in connection with burial or cremation.\n(2) “Preneed services” includes opening and closing a grave.\n(f) “Seller” means a registered cemeterian, registered crematory operator, registered seller, or any other person who sells preneed goods or preneed services.\n(g) “Specific funds” means money that is identified to a specific preneed burial contract.\n(h) “Trust account” means a preneed trust account.","path":["Article - Business Regulation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbr\u0026section=5-701","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:23Z","sha256":"810c72f456703f5cce7b92d8aa68b2a1ec288ef404296c5dc89d733dc1938a8d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-5-610","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-5-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
