Code, Business Regulation § 6–202","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “foreign charitable organization or representative” means a charitable organization or charitable representative who:\n(1) has its principal place of business out of state; or\n(2) is organized under the laws of another state.\n(b) By soliciting a charitable contribution in the State, a foreign charitable organization or representative irrevocably appoints the Secretary of State as agent to receive a subpoena, summons, or other process that is:\n(1) issued in an action brought under this title; and\n(2) directed to:\n(i) the foreign charitable organization or representative; or\n(ii) a partner, principal officer, or director of the foreign charitable organization or representative.\n(c) Service of process is sufficient service on a foreign charitable organization or representative if:\n(1) service is made by the personal delivery and leaving of a copy of the process with the Secretary of State or the authorized representative of the Secretary of State; and\n(2) the Secretary of State sends a copy of the process by certified mail to the foreign charitable organization or representative at its last known address.","path":["Article - Business Regulation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbr\u0026section=6-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:23Z","sha256":"034fbb961fb62880ae789385fd19389eae8cb728712572eb9ad4191fb4cd0ad6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-6-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-6-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
