Code, Business Regulation § 8–601","heading":"","body":"(a) Except as otherwise provided in this title, a person may not act or offer to act as a contractor in the State unless the person has a contractor license.\n(b) Except as otherwise provided in this title, a person may not sell or offer to sell a home improvement in the State unless the person has a contractor license or salesperson license.\n(c) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, on first conviction, is subject to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 6 months or both and, on a second or subsequent conviction, is subject to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 2 years or both.","path":["Article - Business Regulation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gbr\u0026section=8-601","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:23Z","sha256":"dc5ce87f67fd4772e7253fce83e058a2d50edfd8f584bd9e949a1bac58702597","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-8-506","next":"us-md/md.-code-business-regulation-8-602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
