Code, Commercial Law § 12–113","heading":"","body":"(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, a lender may not refuse to lend money to any person solely because of:\n(1) Geographic area or neighborhood; or\n(2) Race, creed, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, marital status, handicap, or national origin.\n(b) A lender may refuse to make a loan:\n(1) On property outside a geographic area of the State in which the lender normally does business;\n(2) To be used in a type of business or activity other than a type in connection with which the lender normally makes loans; or\n(3) Because of a greater than normal risk, including one due to:\n(i) The presence of an airport;\n(ii) An unusual drainage condition; or\n(iii) Any other situation which causes a greater than normal risk of loss in a particular area.","path":["Article - Commercial Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcl\u0026section=12-113","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:33Z","sha256":"a30ae05ea11289b156f67d625aa7d04e2e57bb8fb752ffae023e7b10fab751d6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-commercial-law-12-112","next":"us-md/md.-code-commercial-law-12-114"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
