Code, Commercial Law § 13–401","heading":"","body":"(a) A consumer who is subjected to a violation of this title may file with the Division a written complaint which states:\n(1) The name and address of the person alleged to have committed the violation complained of;\n(2) The particulars of the violation; and\n(3) Any other information required by the Division.\n(b) After the filing of a complaint, the Division shall investigate the allegations to ascertain issues and facts. If appropriate, the Division shall refer a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission.\n(c) The Division may seek the cooperation of the licensing authorities and contracting departments of the State in connection with its investigation of a person who is licensed to do business in the State or who has a contractual relationship with the State.\n(d) If the Division determines that the complaint lacks reasonable grounds on which to base a violation of this subtitle, it may:\n(1) Dismiss the complaint; or\n(2) Conduct any further investigation it considers necessary.\n(e) This section does not prevent a consumer from:\n(1) Exercising any right or seeking any remedy to which he might otherwise be entitled; or\n(2) Filing a complaint with any other agency or court.","path":["Article - Commercial Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcl\u0026section=13-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:33Z","sha256":"3715918d8992ec61469da73ab6119faeacd756cbf4e9cf50c3dfee05e3b9e363","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-commercial-law-13-320","next":"us-md/md.-code-commercial-law-13-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
