Code, Commercial Law § 14–4A–09","heading":"","body":"(a) Unless authorized by the Maryland Insurance Commissioner to engage in the insurance business in the State, a warrantor may not use the following words in its name, contracts, or literature:\n(1) “Insurance”;\n(2) “Casualty”;\n(3) “Surety”;\n(4) “Mutual”; or\n(5) Any other words that are:\n(i) Descriptive of the insurance, casualty, or surety business; or\n(ii) Deceptively similar to the name or description of an insurer, a surety corporation, or another warrantor.\n(b) A warrantor may use the term “guaranty” or a similar word in the warrantor’s name.","path":["Article - Commercial Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcl\u0026section=14-4A-09","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:33Z","sha256":"1972ca01f4c1e78c717a40f4966b1e2eee68d70f60ec0cb8135ccc14001bca8c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-commercial-law-14-4a-08","next":"us-md/md.-code-commercial-law-14-4a-10"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
