Code, Corporations and Associations § 5–601","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Commission” means the Public Service Commission.\n(c) “Cooperative” means a corporation that:\n(1) Is organized under this subtitle; or\n(2) Becomes subject to this subtitle in the manner provided in this subtitle.\n(d) “Electric plant” means the material, equipment, and property owned by a cooperative and used or to be used for or in connection with electric service.\n(e) “Member” means a person or household that has been qualified and accepted for membership in a cooperative in accordance with its bylaws.\n(f) “Member–regulated cooperative” means a cooperative:\n(1) That provides retail electric service to its members on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; and\n(2) Whose board of directors has passed a binding resolution to operate as a member–regulated cooperative.\n(g) (1) “Person” has the meaning stated in § 1–101 of this article.\n(2) “Person” includes:\n(i) The State;\n(ii) A county, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision of the State; and\n(iii) A unit of federal, State, or local government.","path":["Article - Corporations and Associations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gca\u0026section=5-601","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:56:43Z","sha256":"3e445f49ab187f8d35b8500a19b86f78f9e83d4aab513cddbce3eb9221fb5870","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-corporations-and-associations-5-5a-30","next":"us-md/md.-code-corporations-and-associations-5-602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
