Code, Courts and Judicial Proceedings § 3–229","heading":"","body":"(a) Notwithstanding the death of a party who made a written agreement to submit a controversy to arbitration, the arbitration proceedings may begin or continue if an application has been filed by or notice given to his personal representative.\n(b) If a guardian has been appointed, the proceedings may be continued:\n(1) Upon the application of the guardian; or\n(2) Upon the notice to the guardian.\n(c) Upon the death or incompetence of a party, the court may extend the time within which a petition to confirm, vacate, or modify the award, or to stay arbitration, must be made.\n(d) If a party dies after an award was delivered, the subsequent proceedings are the same as where a party dies after a verdict.","path":["Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcj\u0026section=3-229","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:03Z","sha256":"9a9be38302072c7a08616cdacd2160de8bb457892157c034bd8c4b7274e6a251","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-courts-and-judicial-proceedings-3-228","next":"us-md/md.-code-courts-and-judicial-proceedings-3-230"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
