Code, Courts and Judicial Proceedings § 3–828","heading":"","body":"(a) An adult may not willfully contribute to, encourage, cause or tend to cause any act, omission, or condition that renders a child in need of assistance.\n(b) A person may be convicted under this section even if the child is not adjudicated a CINA.\n(c) An adult who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $2,500 or imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or both.\n(d) A petition alleging a violation of this section shall be prepared and filed by the State’s Attorney.\n(e) If an adult is charged under this section, the allegations shall be proved beyond a reasonable doubt.","path":["Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcj\u0026section=3-828","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:03Z","sha256":"de3ec641c1666f9d8a8b440585f2b484e4c6e038b7936b7c10f1c076e64f5425","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-courts-and-judicial-proceedings-3-827","next":"us-md/md.-code-courts-and-judicial-proceedings-3-829"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
