Code, Criminal Law § 10–610","heading":"","body":"(a) This section does not apply to a person giving away an animal:\n(1) as an agricultural project;\n(2) for conservation purposes; or\n(3) that is intended for slaughter.\n(b) Without the approval of the Secretary of Agriculture, a person may not give away a live animal as:\n(1) a prize for, or inducement to enter, a contest, game, or other competition;\n(2) an inducement to enter a place of amusement; or\n(3) an incentive to make a business agreement if the offer is to attract trade.\n(c) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $500.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=10-610","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"04bc1def2eb91643e3f597e52a09273168fd4b8eba391997b7ac6ce56ad6dee8","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-10-609","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-10-611"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
