Code, Criminal Law § 12–101","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Candidate” has the meaning stated in § 1-101 of the Election Law Article.\n(c) (1) “Credit” means payment by a credit card or promissory note.\n(2) “Credit” includes selling or pledging personal property in exchange for cash or tokens.\n(d) (1) “Gaming device” means:\n(i) a gaming table, except a billiard table, at which a game of chance is played for money or any other thing or consideration of value; or\n(ii) a game or device at which money or any other thing or consideration of value is bet, wagered, or gambled.\n(2) “Gaming device” includes a paddle wheel, wheel of fortune, chance book, and bingo.\n(e) “Gaming event” means:\n(1) a bingo game;\n(2) a carnival;\n(3) a bazaar;\n(4) a raffle;\n(5) a benefit performance; or\n(6) any other event at which a gaming device is operated.\n(f) “Organization” includes:\n(1) a fraternal, religious, civic, patriotic, educational, or charitable organization;\n(2) a volunteer fire company, rescue squad, or auxiliary unit;\n(3) a veterans’ organization or club;\n(4) a bona fide nonprofit organization that is raising money for an exclusively charitable, athletic, or educational purpose; or\n(5) any organization that is authorized to conduct a gaming event under Subtitle 1 or 2 of this title or Title 13 of this article.\n(g) “Political committee” has the meaning stated in § 1-101 of the Election Law Article.\n(h) “Token” means a poker chip, bingo chip, or other device commonly used instead of money in the playing of a gaming device.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=12-101","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"2571e4ef0341daa1090a1cc1a2686a0b859f7e80894b281180e176dd5fbb9add","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-11-307","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-12-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
