Code, Criminal Law § 12–107","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) The prohibition in subsection (b) of this section applies notwithstanding a license or permit granted through or by a county, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision of this State.\n(2) This section does not apply to:\n(i) pari-mutuel betting conducted under the Maryland Horse Racing Act;\n(ii) bingo, carnivals, raffles, bazaars, or similar games of entertainment; or\n(iii) mechanical or electrical devices, commonly known as slot machines, that are authorized in the State and that require the insertion of a coin or token.\n(b) A person may not conduct or operate with pari-mutuel betting, or with any similar form of betting, wagering, or gambling:\n(1) the game, contest, or event commonly known as “jai alai”; or\n(2) any other game, contest, or event.\n(c) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine of not less than $200 and not exceeding $1,000 for each violation.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=12-107","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"64147137637f41f3da4fa3c7e65c88c23427430ea5147e3f5d449e28531f3480","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-12-106","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-12-108"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
