Code, Criminal Law § 13–2420","heading":"","body":"(a) A person shall be licensed by the agency before operating a tip jar.\n(b) To be eligible for a license to operate a tip jar, an applicant shall be a:\n(1) religious organization;\n(2) civic organization;\n(3) fraternal organization;\n(4) veterans’ organization;\n(5) bona fide charitable organization;\n(6) sportsmen’s association that is tax exempt under § 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code and that is approved by the county commissioners;\n(7) holder of a Class A beer, wine and liquor license;\n(8) restaurant with an alcoholic beverages license;\n(9) tavern with an alcoholic beverages license;\n(10) volunteer fire company; or\n(11) volunteer rescue company.\n(c) (1) A person may not receive a tip jar license if the person:\n(i) owes taxes to the State, the county, or a municipal corporation in the county;\n(ii) unless authorized under paragraph (2) of this subsection, holds a wholesaler’s license; or\n(iii) has been convicted of a:\n1. felony; or\n2. misdemeanor involving a violation of a gambling or gaming law of the State.\n(2) A volunteer fire company or volunteer rescue company may hold both a tip jar license and wholesaler’s license.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=13-2420","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"e5603b5469edc3f0b417e3ebaae6af45b26f15936c54409cbf66e2a5e3a0a2c6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-13-2419","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-13-2421"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
