Code, Criminal Law § 3–202","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “strangling” means impeding the normal breathing or blood circulation of another person by applying pressure to the other person’s throat or neck.\n(b) (1) A person may not intentionally cause or attempt to cause serious physical injury to another.\n(2) A person may not commit an assault with a firearm, including:\n(i) a handgun, antique firearm, rifle, shotgun, short–barreled shotgun, or short–barreled rifle, as those terms are defined in § 4–201 of this article;\n(ii) an assault pistol, as defined in § 4–301 of this article;\n(iii) a machine gun, as defined in § 4–401 of this article; and\n(iv) a regulated firearm, as defined in § 5–101 of the Public Safety Article.\n(3) A person may not commit an assault by intentionally strangling another.\n(c) A person who violates this section is guilty of the felony of assault in the first degree and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 25 years.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=3-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"31184d7c031cc3748fea492a1cedab306e6012ae88e61efeac8b5d9a931fc527","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-3-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-3-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
