Code, Criminal Law § 3–808","heading":"","body":"(a) A person may not file a lien or an encumbrance in a public or private record against the real or personal property of another if the person knows that the lien or encumbrance is:\n(1) false; or\n(2) contains or is based on a materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation.\n(b) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to:\n(1) for a first violation, imprisonment not exceeding 1 year or a fine not exceeding $10,000 or both; and\n(2) for each subsequent violation, imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or a fine not exceeding $10,000 or both.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=3-808","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"9d46c0bd0cdf0cae7a7cae1328e68d4bc032738f1ec085c09af99a993cfeea8e","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-3-807","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-3-809"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
