Code, Criminal Law § 3–906","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) “Telegraph company” has the meaning stated in § 1–101 of the Public Utilities Article.\n(3) “Telegraph lines” has the meaning stated in § 1–101 of the Public Utilities Article.\n(4) “Telephone company” has the meaning stated in § 1–101 of the Public Utilities Article.\n(5) “Telephone lines” has the meaning stated in § 1–101 of the Public Utilities Article.\n(b) An employee or agent of a telegraph company or telephone company, or of a person operating telegraph lines or telephone lines for profit in the State, may not:\n(1) willfully divulge the contents or nature of the contents of a private communication that is entrusted to the person for transmission or delivery; or\n(2) willfully refuse or neglect to transmit or deliver a private communication.\n(c) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 3 months or a fine not exceeding $500 or both.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=3-906","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"3e80199c38a978786a102540adafb6cf27eaa74ca71e8129877b3fbcd5394756","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-3-905","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-3-907"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
