Code, Criminal Law § 6–402","heading":"","body":"(a) A person may not enter or trespass on property that is posted conspicuously against trespass by:\n(1) signs placed where they reasonably may be seen; or\n(2) paint marks that:\n(i) conform with regulations that the Department of Natural Resources adopts under § 5–209 of the Natural Resources Article; and\n(ii) are made on trees or posts that are located:\n1. at each road entrance to the property; and\n2. adjacent to public roadways, public waterways, and other land adjoining the property.\n(b) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to:\n(1) for a first violation, imprisonment not exceeding 90 days or a fine not exceeding $500 or both;\n(2) for a second violation occurring within 2 years after the first violation, imprisonment not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding $1,000 or both; and\n(3) for each subsequent violation occurring within 2 years after the preceding violation, imprisonment not exceeding 1 year or a fine not exceeding $2,500 or both.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=6-402","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"5be141c8663c163f2a31496514ca14799030b2a5d1217fec462cf2867cc5c27a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-6-401","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-6-403"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
