Code, Criminal Law § 9–404","heading":"","body":"(a) A person may not knowingly escape from a place of confinement.\n(b) A person may not:\n(1) escape from:\n(i) a detention center for juveniles;\n(ii) a facility for juveniles listed in § 9–226(b) of the Human Services Article;\n(iii) a place identified in a juvenile community detention order; or\n(iv) a privately operated, hardware secure facility for juveniles committed to the Department of Juvenile Services; and\n(2) in the course of the escape commit an assault.\n(c) A person who violates this section is guilty of the felony of escape in the first degree and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 10 years or a fine not exceeding $20,000 or both.","path":["Article - Criminal Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcr\u0026section=9-404","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:08Z","sha256":"99739b76860b3cb9c4385d9ee75e23f5457bda8fef2fe2e768b31470e093fed5","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-9-403","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-law-9-405"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
