Code, Criminal Procedure § 11–1001","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Crime” means conduct that is a crime under the law of this State or federal law.\n(c) (1) “Disposition” means the sentencing or determination of penalty or punishment to be imposed on a person convicted of a crime or against whom a finding of sufficient facts for conviction is made.\n(2) “Disposition” includes dismissal of charges or other disposition under a plea bargain agreement.\n(d) “Restitution” means money or services that a defendant is ordered to pay or render to a victim, victim’s representative, or other person or governmental unit.\n(e) “Victim” means a person who suffers direct or threatened physical, emotional, or financial harm as a result of a crime.\n(f) “Victim’s representative” includes:\n(1) a spouse, child, sibling, or a parent of a victim who is a minor, incompetent, or a victim of a homicide; or\n(2) a guardian of a minor or an incompetent.\n(g) “Witness” means a person who is or expects to be a State’s witness.","path":["Article - Criminal Procedure"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcp\u0026section=11-1001","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:17Z","sha256":"98b04d4e29d437faa671c31aa383728c22c46531e8172534ea11a444b8a93b1e","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-procedure-11-934","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-procedure-11-1002"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
