Code, Criminal Procedure § 5–212","heading":"","body":"(a) This section does not apply to a citation:\n(1) for a violation of a parking ordinance or regulation adopted under Title 26, Subtitle 3 of the Transportation Article;\n(2) adopted by the Chief Judge of the District Court under § 1–605(d) of the Courts Article, for use in traffic offenses; or\n(3) issued by a Natural Resources police officer under § 1–205 of the Natural Resources Article.\n(b) A bench warrant may be issued for the arrest of a defendant who fails to appear in court in response to a citation.\n(c) A person who fails to appear in court in response to a citation is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 90 days or both.","path":["Article - Criminal Procedure"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gcp\u0026section=5-212","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:17Z","sha256":"f62cd660e92eb2b218ca99672d88ad7eef0db6e82a49940850babf230d22f635","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-procedure-5-211","next":"us-md/md.-code-criminal-procedure-5-213"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
