Code, Economic Development § 10–458","heading":"","body":"(a) The Initiative may:\n(1) provide grant funding or equity investment financing to a qualifying university, qualifying university–based entrepreneur, or other start–up entity, to promote the commercialization of technology developed in whole or in part by a qualifying university;\n(2) pursue grants, other funds, and in–kind contributions for the Initiative or its qualifying universities;\n(3) develop and implement guidelines for technology transfer; and\n(4) identify projects at qualifying universities that may be viable for commercialization.\n(b) The grant funding or equity investment financing in subsection (a) of this section shall be awarded:\n(1) to support pre–commercial research on intellectual property to increase the likelihood of commercializing the intellectual property;\n(2) to defray costs of evaluating the feasibility of a technology becoming commercialized through a start–up company;\n(3) to defray the direct costs of developing early stage technology through a start–up entity;\n(4) to assess intellectual property issues, including licensing and patents; or\n(5) for any other costs that the Initiative’s participating members determine are appropriate to promote technology transfer and commercialization in the State.","path":["Article - Economic Development"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gec\u0026section=10-458","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:28Z","sha256":"89291267d4248872056a147f1fa863bf92d0a584b53e736ab1de6cd4e0312674","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-economic-development-10-457","next":"us-md/md.-code-economic-development-10-459"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
