Code, Education § 6–1010","heading":"","body":"(a) Teacher evaluation systems used in connection with the career ladder shall:\n(1) Be aligned with the five core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards;\n(2) Include a peer assistance and review model;\n(3) Define the system’s expectations for an evaluator’s level of skill and knowledge; and\n(4) Include a calibrated method to measure performance and to provide personalized feedback that is aligned with the teacher’s strengths, needs, and professional learning context.\n(b) An evaluation system used in connection with a career ladder shall use observations to evaluate a teacher that:\n(1) Include documented observable evidence;\n(2) Are linked to student learning and not solely consist of simple checklists;\n(3) Include post observation conferences between the teacher and evaluator to encourage reflection on the teacher’s teaching practice;\n(4) Require an assessment of the competency of the evaluator;\n(5) Are developed with stakeholders; and\n(6) Require teachers and evaluators to be fully trained to understand the evaluation process.","path":["Article - Education"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ged\u0026section=6-1010","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:38Z","sha256":"3517d67abbf735841a32aa5d77a2236b1b4fc8e3c2a0b5e030f32bc6759a3fe5","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-education-6-1009","next":"us-md/md.-code-education-6-1011"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
