Code, Education § 6–704.1","heading":"","body":"(a) On or before July 1, 2016, the Board shall require a certificate holder applying for renewal of a certificate as a school counselor to have obtained training in, by a method determined by the Board, the knowledge and skills required to understand and respond to the social, emotional, and personal development of students, including knowledge and skills relating to:\n(1) The recognition of indicators of mental illness and behavioral distress, including depression, trauma, violence, youth suicide, and substance abuse; and\n(2) The identification of professional resources to help students in crisis.\n(b) The training required under subsection (a) of this section shall be commensurate with the duties of a school counselor and may exceed the training required of other school personnel under § 6–122 of this title.\n(c) The Board shall adopt regulations to implement the provisions of this section.","path":["Article - Education"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ged\u0026section=6-704.1","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:38Z","sha256":"0b74b7fc314cc446fa5491bdc584d8a65ab15d0563244311cc6b9c011623f722","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-education-6-704","next":"us-md/md.-code-education-6-705"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
