Code, Education § 7–426","heading":"","body":"(a) The Department and the Maryland Department of Health shall jointly establish guidelines for public schools regarding providing emergency medical care to students with special health needs.\n(b) The guidelines shall include:\n(1) Procedures for the emergency administration of medication and the proper follow–up emergency procedures;\n(2) A description of parental or caregiver responsibilities, including:\n(i) School notification of a child’s special health care needs or diagnosis;\n(ii) Providing appropriate medication and delivery devices and medical condition indication devices including Medic Alert bracelets or necklaces;\n(iii) Parental consent for the administration of medications; and\n(iv) Providing an emergency card for medical emergencies with current contact names and telephone numbers;\n(3) A description of school responsibilities, including:\n(i) Training for school health services personnel, teachers, coaches, transportation personnel, and other appropriate school personnel;\n(ii) Providing and distributing the required notices and forms for notification, consent for the administration of medications, medical emergency contact information, and any other appropriate material; and\n(iii) Providing outreach and education for parents and other caregivers regarding providing emergency medical care to students with special health needs;\n(4) A description of student responsibilities that are age and condition appropriate; and\n(5) Any other issue that is relevant to the emergency medical care of students with special health needs.\n(c) The Department and the Maryland Department of Health shall:\n(1) Provide technical assistance to schools to:\n(i) Implement the guidelines established under this section; and\n(ii) Train school personnel at the local level; and\n(2) Develop a process to monitor the implementation of the guidelines established under this section.","path":["Article - Education"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ged\u0026section=7-426","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:38Z","sha256":"1138c5c805496a0070ba08984e7aeb74535da996ef7db379981f9db3d1d242dd","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-education-7-425","next":"us-md/md.-code-education-7-426.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
