Code, Education § 9.9–107","heading":"","body":"(a) This section does not apply to a community school that receives funding under § 5–223 of this article.\n(b) A local school system shall make public school funding available to a community school.\n(c) Eligible interventions for which a community school may receive funding include academic services, parental involvement programs, physical and behavioral health services, and community involvement programs.\n(d) (1) Academic services include:\n(i) Academic support and enrichment activities;\n(ii) Counseling;\n(iii) Job training, internship opportunities, higher education advising, and career, apprenticeship, and employment opportunities;\n(iv) Programs that provide assistance to students who are chronically absent, tardy, suspended, or expelled;\n(v) Specialized instructional support services; and\n(vi) Early childhood education, including Head Start or Early Head Start.\n(2) Parental involvement programs include:\n(i) Programs that promote and encourage parental involvement and family literacy;\n(ii) Parent leadership development and advocacy activities; and\n(iii) Parenting education activities.\n(3) Physical and mental health services include:\n(i) Mentoring and other youth development services, including after school and summer learning opportunities and services;\n(ii) Juvenile justice system involvement prevention, reentry, rehabilitation, and restorative practices;\n(iii) Home visitation services;\n(iv) Developmentally appropriate physical education;\n(v) Nutrition services;\n(vi) Primary health and dental care; and\n(vii) Mental health and counseling services.\n(4) Community involvement programs include:\n(i) Service and service–learning opportunities;\n(ii) Adult education, including English as a second language classes;\n(iii) Homelessness prevention and permanent housing services; and\n(iv) Other services designed to meet the needs of the community school and the community as identified by the community school leadership team and in accordance with the plan developed under § 9.9–104(b) of this title.\n(e) A community school or the community school coordinator may solicit the assistance and support of community partners when fulfilling the requirements of this section.","path":["Article - Education"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ged\u0026section=9.9-107","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:38Z","sha256":"11d006a853eb1282f6602bfbe3b9dc445fb212d4974c5a25fa970412dd6ee173","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-education-9.9-106","next":"us-md/md.-code-education-9.10-101"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
