Code, Election Law § 12–301","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) (1) “Contested election” means an election subject to:\n(i) a recount under Subtitle 1 of this title; or\n(ii) a judicial challenge under Subtitle 2 of this title.\n(2) “Contested election” includes an election that may be subject to a recount under Subtitle 1 of this title, but for which a recount does not occur because neither candidate files a formal recount petition or initiates a judicial action.\n(c) “Contested election committee” means an entity formed for the exclusive purpose of receiving donations and making disbursements relating to a contested election.","path":["Article - Election Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gel\u0026section=12-301","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:47Z","sha256":"9c803d706c0e89d63e87ed11ec685eba6934a7711f8da1bf565656e00fcb8996","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-12-204","next":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-12-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
