Code, Election Law § 15.5–101","heading":"","body":"(a) In this title the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Designated language” means a language other than English in which the State Board determines a local board is required to provide assistance to voters under this title.\n(c) “Limited English proficiency” means that an individual:\n(1) speaks a particular language other than English;\n(2) does not speak English as a primary language; and\n(3) speaks, reads, or understands the English language less than “very well”, as reported in available U.S. Census Bureau data or data of comparable quality collected by a public office.\n(d) “Program” means the Language Assistance Program.\n(e) “Voting materials” includes:\n(1) statewide voter registration applications;\n(2) State Board approved absentee ballot applications;\n(3) specimen ballots; and\n(4) forms and instructions that the State Board determines necessary to voting.","path":["Article - Election Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gel\u0026section=15.5-101","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:47Z","sha256":"bb3b0eae1300e4eb808d3fb164dee4b31ea9bd2453a27b69dd1561c70a08a5b5","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-15-114","next":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-15.5-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
