Code, Election Law § 2–206","heading":"","body":"Subject to the requirements of this article, regulations adopted by the State Board and the policies and guidance of the State Board and the local board, the election director shall:\n(1) appoint the employees of the local board;\n(2) train election judges;\n(3) give notice of elections;\n(4) upon the request of an elderly or disabled voter whose polling place is not structurally barrier free, provide an alternate polling place to the voter;\n(5) issue voter notification cards;\n(6) receive certificates of candidacy;\n(7) verify petitions;\n(8) in consultation with the local board, conduct the canvass of an election;\n(9) subject to § 9–306 of this article, process and reject absentee ballot applications;\n(10) manage the storage, security, maintenance, and preparation of voting system equipment;\n(11) within 24 hours, notify the State Administrator and local board in writing of:\n(i) a security violation or significant attempted security violation, as those terms are defined in § 2–108 of this title, that impedes the proper and efficient operation of the local board; and\n(ii) damage to the office, warehouse, voting system equipment, or other materials used to conduct an election;\n(12) ensure the equipment used by the employees of the local board meets cybersecurity requirements; and\n(13) perform duties as delegated by the local board.","path":["Article - Election Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gel\u0026section=2-206","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:47Z","sha256":"cd759d2aba2bf3e258e705e3cc901656991f55dcd517ae15ef4e46033240e267","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-2-205","next":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-2-207"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
