Code, Election Law § 5–205","heading":"","body":"(a) In accordance with Article II of the Maryland Constitution, when a candidate for nomination for Governor files a certificate of candidacy for that office, the candidate shall designate a candidate for Lieutenant Governor.\n(b) The candidates for nomination for Governor and Lieutenant Governor each shall file for nomination and be considered a unit for nomination to the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor.\n(c) (1) The names of the candidates of a unit for Governor and Lieutenant Governor shall be listed jointly on the ballot.\n(2) A vote cast for a candidate for Governor also shall be a vote cast for the candidate for Lieutenant Governor.","path":["Article - Election Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gel\u0026section=5-205","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:47Z","sha256":"46df2d6f54831bdfc102da5133a68e078bc006150b77e4c86042133c6eb57e13","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-5-204","next":"us-md/md.-code-election-law-5-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
