Code, Environment § 6–904","heading":"","body":"The General Assembly finds that:\n(1) Mercury is a persistent and toxic pollutant that bioaccumulates in the environment;\n(2) Consumption of mercury–contaminated fish poses a significant health threat;\n(3) Combustion of municipal and other solid waste is a source of mercury pollution;\n(4) Both industry and government are working to reduce the content of mercury in products and to control the release of mercury into the environment;\n(5) Accidental mercury spills, breakages, and releases have occurred at schools in the United States, exposing students, teachers, and administrators to mercury emissions; and\n(6) Removal of mercury and mercury–containing products from the waste stream prior to combustion or disposal is an effective way to reduce mercury pollution.","path":["Article - Environment"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gen\u0026section=6-904","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:58Z","sha256":"d7721efb77f5aed3dfcc1e1abf66d3e8b1f5c569154f2ee06f989bccecf99f93","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-environment-6-903","next":"us-md/md.-code-environment-6-905"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
