Code, Environment § 9–227","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) (i) “Infectious waste” means any waste that comes from a hospital, laboratory, or other health care facility as defined in § 19-114 of the Health - General Article and that is known or suspected to be contaminated with organisms capable of producing disease or infection in humans.\n(ii) “Infectious waste” includes:\n1. Contaminated disposable equipment, instruments, and utensils;\n2. Contaminated needles, scalpels, and razor blades;\n3. Human tissues and organs that result from surgery, obstetrics, or autopsy;\n4. Feces, urine, vomitus, and suctionings;\n5. Live vaccines for human use;\n6. Blood and blood products; and\n7. Laboratory specimens, such as tissues, blood elements, excreta, and secretions.\n(b) A hospital, laboratory, or other health care facility as defined in § 19-114 of the Health - General Article may not dispose of infectious waste, or cause infectious waste to be disposed of, in a landfill system in this State.\n(c) The Secretary is responsible with law enforcement personnel in this State for monitoring and enforcing subsection (b) of this section.","path":["Article - Environment"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gen\u0026section=9-227","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:57:58Z","sha256":"45f8aa86b92ebc0429ccc3b5b9ae7da6f99e8545cc77161c28bd17e1418834dc","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-environment-9-226","next":"us-md/md.-code-environment-9-228"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
